If YouTube is free, why would anyone pay to learn forex?

Walk through Accra today and you'll find young people talking about forex everywhere.

From university campuses to offices, from WhatsApp groups to Telegram communities, more and more Ghanaians are curious about trading.

Someone has seen a friend make money from Gold.

Someone else has watched a TikTok video showing a trader withdrawing thousands of dollars.

Another person has just discovered forex and is convinced that this might finally be the opportunity they've been looking for.

So they do what almost everyone does.

They pick up their phone.

They open YouTube.

And they search:

“How to start forex trading.”

Within seconds, they're hit with thousands of videos.

How to read candlesticks.

How to trade Gold.

How to find entries.

How to use indicators.

How to trade support and resistance.

How to use Smart Money Concepts.

How to trade ICT.

And the best part?

Most of it is completely free.

So naturally, a question starts to make sense.

“If I can learn all of this for free online, why should I pay for a forex course?”

That's actually a very fair question.

And my answer is simple.

Yes, you can learn forex without paying for a course.

But there's something most beginners in Ghana don't realise until they've already spent months trying to figure things out.

Having access to information is not the same as knowing how to learn.

And that difference can cost you a lot more than the price of a course.

The Internet Has Given Beginners Too Much Information

Imagine you're completely new to forex.

You search:

"How do I trade forex?"

You find a video.

The person in the video tells you to learn price action.

So you search for price action.

Another trader tells you indicators are useless.

So you search for trading without indicators.

Then someone introduces Smart Money Concepts.

Another person introduces ICT.

Someone else says you should scalp.

Another says scalping is terrible and you should swing trade.

Before long, you have watched 50 videos and somehow understand less than you did when you started.

This is one of the biggest problems with learning forex for free.

The information isn't necessarily bad.

The problem is that there is no clear order.

You're collecting pieces without knowing how they fit together.

And that's how beginners spend six months learning without actually becoming better traders.

Free Information Isn't the Same as Free Education

This is an important distinction.

You can find almost everything you need online.

But finding information isn't the difficult part anymore.

Knowing what to learn, when to learn it, and how to apply it is the difficult part.

Think about learning to drive.

You can watch hundreds of driving videos online for free.

You can learn what the pedals do.

You can learn the road signs.

You can even watch someone drive around Accra for hours.

But eventually, you need to put everything together.

You need to understand when to brake.

When to accelerate.

How to react when something unexpected happens.

And most importantly, you need practice.

Forex education is similar.

You don't necessarily need someone to teach you every single fact about the market.

You need someone or something that can help you put the facts together into a system you understand.

That's the real value of structured education.

You Can Learn the Basics for Free

If you're a complete beginner, I actually encourage you to start learning without spending a lot of money.

Learn what forex is.

Understand currency pairs.

Learn pips, lot sizes, leverage and margin.

Understand how orders work.

Learn what a stop loss is.

Understand risk management.

Learn how trading platforms work.

You don't need an expensive course to understand these basic concepts.

But eventually, you have to decide whether you want to keep collecting information or start building a structured understanding of the market.

That's the real decision.

You don't need to spend thousands of dollars to learn forex.

You don't need to buy every course someone recommends.

And you definitely shouldn't believe anyone who tells you that paying for a course automatically makes you profitable.

It doesn't.

Education gives you knowledge.

Practice gives you experience.

Discipline gives you consistency.

And time allows all three to develop.

So if you're starting today, don't worry about whether you need to spend money immediately.

Start learning.

Start practicing.

Build your foundation.

And when you reach the point where you need more structure, feedback or advanced guidance, invest in the kind of education that actually solves the problem you're facing.

Because the goal isn't to spend money learning forex.

The goal is to become good enough at forex that the knowledge you built becomes something you can use for years.
